Rosehill Christian School Host Youth Culture and Sexual Values Conference

Thoughts and attitudes about sexual values among teens in our country are always a concern for parents. But parents aren't always aware of the pressures that teens face out of the home␣or even in their home while teens socialize online.

A private school in northwest Houston is bringing knowledgeable speakers on the campus for a two-day conference. Rosehill Christian School is hosting the event which will address the issues of the youth culture and sexual values. Conference dates are Friday, March 23, 2012 and Saturday, March 24.

The main speaker, Andy Braner, from Colorado, will examine how to restore youth to a better place. In an average year, Andy will speak to more than 80,000 high school and college students.

Supporting speakers include Len Shelby and Destiny Cortez. Coach Shelby, an All-American baseball player, is a graduate of Rice University. He has been an educator, administrator and coach in the Houston area for 30 years. Destiny Cortez is the director of Living Truth at the Tomball Pregnancy Center.

This conference is for Pastors, Youth Pastors, Parents, and Teachers. Local media outlets are invited to attend. Media credentials can be obtained by calling the conference coordinator.

Olympic Gold Medalist Celebrates 25 Years With Local Track Club

U.S.A. Track Olympian to Speak at Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club Registration Breakfast on February 4th

The Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club will celebrate its 25th Anniversary Season by hosting its annual free information / registration breakfast on Saturday, February 4, 2012, for all boys, girls and their parents who are interested in joining for the 2012 track season. The breakfast starts promptly at 8:30 AM at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center Forum located at 6823 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX, 77379.

Fred Newhouse, Olympic gold medalist and founder of the Northwest Flyers Track Club, will be the guest speaker at the breakfast. Mr. Newhouse founded the Northwest Flyers Track Club 25 years ago to foster the development of youth track & field in the Northwest Houston area. Mr. Newhouse won a gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay and a silver medal in the 400-meter dash at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada.

The free breakfast is the opportunity for youth athletes to register for the club’s 2012 spring/summer track season, and to meet the Northwest Flyers coaches, staff, and other new and returning athletes. The event will be highlighted by a special presentation from a member of the USA Track & Field Olympic organization. All new parents and athletes interested in joining the Northwest Flyers must attend.

The Northwest Flyers Track Club is a youth (ages 6 -18) track club, affiliated with USA Track & Field (USATF), that provides a full program of sanctioned “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance and relays, and sanctioned “field” events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and javelin. The Northwest Flyers has approximately 275 members.

The Northwest Flyers is a member of the “Win with Integrity” program, a partnership between USATF and the American College of Sports Medicine. “Win with Integrity” brings elite track & field athletes and school-aged kids together to promote healthy lifestyles, keeping active, and living with integrity through the sport of track & field.

Mittelstädt Elementary Hosted Packing Party for U.S. Troops

The Mittelstädt Patriots held an Operation Interdependence Packing Party on Fri., Jan. 13, 2012, in which students packed one civilian ration (c-rat) to be shipped to U.S. troops. They collected more than 3,000 toiletries, wrote more than 1,500 notes, and contributed $340 toward mailing the boxes overseas. Alongside the Klein High baseball team, the elementary students packed 640 bags.

The vital redevelopment of George Bush Intercontinental Airport’s Terminal B is officially underway. A groundbreaking ceremony led by Mayor Annise Parker and project partners, the Houston Airport System and United Continental Holdings, Inc. will take place on Monday, January 23, 2012. The Terminal B South Concourse project will offer expansive views, a spacious passenger lounge, incorporate energy-efficient techniques and quadruple the size of the current facility. Design renderings of the comprehensive project, an animated fly-through video of the new Terminal B and a building information modeling video will be available for viewing.

The new Terminal B will accommodate more passengers and aircraft types, provide new amenities for travelers, improve efficiencies and create local jobs. Houston is home to the largest hub of the world’s largest airline, United Airlines. Romney’s Equity Firm Pedigree Shows His True Colors

Mitt Romney is campaigning for president using his credentials as a savvy business owner and job creator to try to convince voters that this is what the nation needs in a president presiding over the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

But is Romney the kind of capitalist we need or is he exactly the kind of Wall Street vulture that caused this mess and the kind that the “Occupy” movement is warning us about. This is part of the underbelly of capitalism that moves some people to push for more regulation to protect workers and consumers.

“Romney co-founded the private equity firm Bain Capital in 1984, and owned 100 percent of the firm from approximately 1992 to 2001. During that time, he made a fortune while thousands of employees in some of the businesses Bain acquired lost their jobs.(“How Romney Grew Rich by Plundering Companies”, Robyn Blummer)

Private equity firms use large amounts of debt along with a little of their own capital to buy out companies who either are just starting or are on the verge of a growth spurt and need capital to expand. But they also buy firms that they can “flip” for a profit buy selling off assets (often the very buildings that they occupy) and reducing expenses, code for laying off workers.

Oddly, the debt they incur to buy the company is attached to the purchased company, not the equity firm. Also, often the purchased company must lease back the real estate it used to own from, you guessed it, the equity firm or a leasing company owned by the equity firm.

Since the goal is to sell the company a short term view is taken and long term expenses such as research and development are cut and long-term valuable and expensive employees are laid off.

Sometimes the company is saddled with even more debt to pay off investors of the equity firm in the form of distributions and dividends.

Now get this, profits in the form of distributions or from the sale of the business are taxed at the capital gains rate, just 15%. Now you know why Romney refuses to release his tax returns.

It gets worse, the bankruptcy rate for firms purchased by equity firms is twice that of other firms. But this generally happens after the principals of the private equity firm have been rewarded handsomely.

Finally, research also shows that companies that are bought by equity firms actually shed slightly more jobs than they create.

Make no mistake about it. Some of the deals made are win-wins for everyone, adding value for shareholders and creating jobs for workers, including some deals by Romney’s firm, Bain Capital. In fact, Romney was a bit of a rock star in some circles.

But many deals are of the “vulture capital” brand that leaves a very bad taste in everyone’s mouth, unless of course you are an owner of the equity firm. Private equity firms make very good money for their investors and that is their number one goal, profits, not people.

All this attention has private equity insiders a bit nervous. This is a completely unregulated industry and they want to keep it that way. Remember all this next time you listen to a Romney speech. It will sound very different to you now that you know how he made his millions.

After a failed attempt to unseat Ted Kennedy in the Senate in 1994 Mr. Romney may have said it best himself in an interview with the Boston Globe…“He characterized me as a cold-hearted, unfeeling robber baron.” Well, Mitt, if the shoe fits…

la Montgomery and delivered all that was expected and more. The opening act by Zydeco Artist, Leon Chavis & The Zydeco Flames was certainly a welcomed

performance by those in attendance. The special appearance by Zydeco/R&B artist Bryson Bernard also known as "Cupid" had the crowd on their feet. Cupid was born and raised in Lafayette La. and has the respect and support of the Zydeco as well as the R & B community. Having Cupid share the stage with Leon Chavis tonight was priceless however, when "Ride em Like a Cowboy's" Kenne Wayne entered the stage the crowd was astonished. Who would have ever imagined? All of this in one place on a Thursday night in Lafayette Louisiana.

ShowStoppers had the crowd on their feet while he himself dropped it low. This young man may have been overlooked by the Zydeco Community and proved tonight that he has his place on the Stage. Sunggles is a reflection of what Zydeco Culture and entertainment is all about.

Corey Broussard started the show by presenting award for best new artist which went to former Klein Forest student Jabory Francis, known to the Zydeco community as, "Lil Jabb". Other nominees in this category included Samone Wilson from Crosby, Tx. and Ruben Moreno from Houston, Tx. Naylan Williams walked away with the ZMA for best drummer. The ZMA for Best Zydeco Crunk Song went to J Paul right along with the award for Best Vocalist. Lil Nate won the ZMA for best accordionist but, J Paul Jr came right back to claim the ZMA for Best Zydeco Love Song. The ZMA for Best Rhythm Guitar went to

Ann Harris Bennett files for Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar in April 3, 2012 Election

I am happy to announce that I have filed for the office of Harris County Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar.

I felt compelled to enter this race because I passionately believe we need to restore integrity, transparency, and accountability to the voter registration process. The office of Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar is one of those County Administrative Offices that most of us only think about when we are waiting in a long line to pay fees on automobile license tags or property taxes.

The tax watchdog function of this office is incredibility important to the economic success of our region. The office also oversees voter registration. It is no secret that past holders of this office have been entangled in scandalous lawsuits calling into question the integrity of our voter registration process.

It has been almost 50 years since passage of the Voting Rights Act. Yet, from voter registration irregularities to illegal redistricting plans, we too often continue to see examples of the need for the legal protections afforded under the Voting Rights Act. While I could not be more thankful for those protections, I intend to end the questionable practices of the registration process.

The voter registration process should be simple, secure, accessible and most of all, it should never leave citizens questioning its' integrity. Having me as your Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar, all Harris County residents will receive the efficiency and integrity they deserve.

Klein ISD Community Celebration Features Holocaust Survivor Walter Kase

Through Your Eyes, a Klein ISD community celebration

is at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2012, at the Klein Forest High School auditorium (11400 Misty Valley, Houston, Texas 77066). The program honors the Friend of Freedom designees, recognizes the student multimedia contest winners, and features keynote speaker and Holocaust survivor Walter Kase. The Friend of Freedom awards recognizes community members and organizations who volunteer within the Klein ISD and have been advocates for students. The Through Your Eyes student multimedia competition is sponsored by the Klein ISD Education Foundation. Students at all grade levels entered multimedia projects and the first place video is unveiled at the ceremony. Through his powerful life story during the Holocaust, Walter Kase delivers a vivid description of his experiences that aligns with the celebration’s theme of freedom and respect. The Klein ISD Unite for Understanding Council was instrumental in having Walter Kase for the event. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and seating is limited, for more information call 832.249.4751.

Cypress-Tomball Democrats Assist Families

The Cypress-Tomball Democrats recently held their annual Holiday Party at P.F. Chang’s restaurant. As part of the organization’s community service drive, hundreds of dollars worth of clothing, gift cards and toys were collected by members to donate to two deserving families in the Cypress and Tomball areas.

TAPPS State Tournament

The Rosehill Christian School Cross Country team participated in the TAPPS State Tournament at Baylor College. Ashley Miller (Sr) placed 11^th (out of 117 runners) which qualified her for the Academic All-State Team. Kate Barnhart (Jr) finished 25^th. All other RCS team members beat their personal best times. The RCS Cross Country Team is under the leadership of Ms.Erica Clark. Rosehill Christian School is located at 19830 FM 2920 in Tomball, Tx.
