Mayor Annise Parker to Kick-Off National Salvation Army Week at City Hall

Today, Monday May 10, 2010, Mayor Annise Parker will kick-off National Salvation Army Week by presenting The Salvation Army Greater Houston AreaCommand with a proclamation in honor of its 121 years of service in the Greater Houston region at Houston’s City Hall Rotunda, at 2:00 p.m.  The proclamation will be presented on behalf of the City of Houston, and will be accepted by Houston’s Area Commander for The Salvation Army, Major Chris Flanagan.  National Salvation Army Week begins May 10th and runs through May 15th, and is celebrated across the United States in hundreds of cities and towns.  The weeklong observance is time to honor the faithful ministry of The Salvation Army in Houston and across the world, and was first inaugurated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954.
