KISD Zoning Committee Holds Second Meeting
Dr. Jim Cain, superintendent of the Klein ISD, explained to the community members and district personnel serving on the committee that creating a school zone for the opening of a new school affects the attendance zones at existing schools as well. When students leave a school or several schools to attend the new school, the attendance zones must be balanced so that enrollment is balanced. This rezoning is unique because the committee considered districtwide intermediate zones to balance the enrollment of all intermediate schools.
Dr. Cain stated, “There is no perfect solution. We are working to create the best possible solution, one created through a democratic process in which community members have an opportunity to let their voices be heard. The facilities department will review and consider all input from the two committee meetings. In December, I will present a draft to the Board of Trustees. In January, the district will hold a public forum on January 7 at Klein Oak High School, and in February, I will present a formal proposal to the board for their consideration. Members of the community are invited to post comments on the KISD Web site in response to the draft as soon as it has been presented to the board in December.”
Committee members were urged to create a zoning plan that is in the best interest of the whole Klein community.
During the discussion at the November 6 meeting, Mr. Robert Robertson who is the associate superintendent for facility and school services, Ms. Judy Rimato who is an assistant superintendent for the facility and school services, and Ms. Kris Pool of Population and Survey Analysts (PASA) answered questions from committee members.
PASA has recently completed a demographic study of the district. The entire report can be found on www.kleinisd.net by clicking on The PASA Demographic Study on the scrolling bar.
Voters of the Klein ISD approved a bond election in 2008 that provides funding for Ulrich Intermediate School.
