Hildebrandt Runners Off to a 1st Place Start
By, Brittany Gregory (Student Writer)

This past Friday, September 18, 2009, Hildebrandt Intermediate's Cross Country team proved to hold some of the fastest runners of the race. Three of the four first place positions were taken by Hildebrandt students. This was no easy task. Proving to be a strong group of competitors, Hildebrandt was up against Krimmel, Schindewolf, and Strack seventh and eighth grade runners. Krimmel athlete, Hogan Reese, won the seventh grade boys race. Hildebrandt eighth grade male athlete, Adrian Lopez, seventh grade female athlete, Casey Gebhart, and eighth grade female athlete, Mia Hernandez took first place in their perspective races.
Mia Hernandez has taken first place in the first two races of the season. Hernandez was the seventh grade cross-country district champion last year. When she came into the field for the last stretch of the race the announcer could be heard saying “let’s cheer for our first runner for the eighth grade girls, from Hildebrandt, with a significant lead”. Mia’s teammates began a cheer for her “People want to know who we are…” Mia Hernandez is the district record holder for the mile in track and field. She is also a USA swimmer. While she is a dedicated and talented athlete her family is proudest of her exceptional sportsmanship. Mia does not leave the field until her last teammate has finished the race so that she can cheer them on. Mia is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society showing that being dedicated to performing well academically is just as important to her as doing well at sports. Miss. Hernandez has a bright future ahead of her and we look forward to watching her reach the high goals she has set for herself.
