Klein Oak Student Shows Dog at Westminster
Allison Arrant, a ninth grade student at Klein Oak
High School, earned one of the greatest honors for persons who train dogs: she qualified to show her dog, a Cairn Terrier named Bobby. Four years ago, she showed a dog at the Reliant dog show and knew that she wanted to become more involved in showing dogs.
Allison showed Bobby for two years. This dog was bought from a professional handler who taught Allison how to be successful in showing a dog. Just six months later, Allison and Bobby won first in their class in a show. Although he is no longer a show dog, Allison keeps Bobby as a pet.
Allison’s second show dog was a 13 inch Beagle named PJ. This dog has advanced to become number 5 in its class. This is the dog Allison showed at the Westminster show. Allison and PJ enter shows almost every weekend. In the summer, she and the dog are able to make longer trips to competitions. After PJ retires from the ring in about two years, Allison plans to show a Harrier, a small to medium sized dog breed of the hound class that resembles an English Foxhound but is smaller, though not as small as a Beagle.
In addition to showing dogs, Allison is a golfer who is a member of her school’s golf team. She enjoys golf, also, as a father-daughter sport.
